In 2002, I got on a cross-country train to go visit my father in Washington, DC, and added on a three day stop in New Orleans to fullfill a dream. It was January, and the train was iced up and at a full stop by the time we'd been in Montana for three hours, and we were there at a standstill for over a day before we headed, in fits and starts, East. Got stopped in Chicago, diverted to New York and a bus into DC, three days late and just in time for a blackout.
By the time I got to New Orleans, I had 18 hours left before the (southern route) train home. I made it to the hotel bed for about two hours, and was a wee bit worse for wear the first leg of the train trip.
I am still Dreaming New Orleans.
The moral of this story it is the most direct route is not always the best. At least if it's the Northern route from Portland to DC in January.

Use Augmented Reality to Live Preview My Art On YOUR Walls!
You'll find the "Live Preview AR" button just to the right of every work in my print gallery!
This means you can use the camera on your device to superimpose any piece of art onto any wall.
(Or a tree. I've done it on a tree. And a car. Only once on the dog.).
